Calibration and Application of Precision Test Cable Assemblies
High precision test cable assemblies are widely used RF components and are essential consumables in high-accuracy system testing for wireless communication and electronic measurement. Test cable assemblies such as the FABTest series and VNA test series are typically connected to test instruments during operation.
Precision test cable assemblies are valued by instrumentation users for their excellent measurement accuracy, consistency, and long-term stability. However, due to their high performance requirements, they also demand careful handling, proper installation, and regular calibration. To ensure measurement repeatability, extend service life, and maintain accuracy, appropriate tools and standardized operating procedures are required, even for experienced operators.

1. Appropriate handling tools
Applying correct torque to precision test cable assemblies improves measurement repeatability and protects both the cable assembly and the connected instrument. In high-frequency applications, connector tightening torque has a direct impact on measurement results. Consistent torque across all connections in the same test setup is essential for stable and repeatable data.
Using a calibrated torque wrench helps prevent interface damage caused by over-tightening and allows the test cable assembly to reach its rated service life.
Torque Wrench Usage Guidelines:
Confirm that the torque wrench is set to the correct value before use
Position the torque wrench within 90° of the mating wrench or fixture
Hold the handle lightly and apply force perpendicular to the handle
Tighten until the torque wrench reaches its initial “break point”; do not exceed this point

2. Calibration and Operation
Calibration Guidelines
Allow test instruments to warm up for approximately one hour before calibration when powered on for the first time
Remove dust caps before calibration to prevent contamination of connector interfaces
Place calibration connectors facing downward on the work surface to avoid dust and debris
Do not perform measurements before proper calibration, as accuracy cannot be guaranteed
Calibrate the test cable assembly before each use, as temperature and humidity variations can affect results
Although calibration data can be stored and recalled, real-time calibration is recommended for maximum accuracy.

Operation Procedure
Wear a grounded wrist strap with appropriate series resistance
Inspect, clean, and gauge all connectors to ensure they are undamaged and within mechanical specifications
Carefully align the center axes of both connectors and push them together straight to ensure smooth engagement

4. Rotate only the connector nut—do not rotate the connector body or device—to avoid thread damage

5. Use a torque wrench to complete the final connection, tightening until the initial break point is reached
3. Maintenance Guidelines
Do not store test cable assemblies in damp, heated, corrosive, or impact-prone environments
Replace test cable assemblies after approximately 5,000 connection cycles
Avoid exceeding the minimum bending radius, typically about ten times the cable diameter
